CUSD Parent University

  • Chester Upland School District (CUSD) Parent University empowers the parents of CUSD's students with research-based information, alternatives and strategies to work towards increasing health and wellness within the family unit. With the integration of this knowledge, parents increase their understanding of children's needs and challenges, and parents become knowledgeable self-advocates, which encourages them in teaching their children to be successful and productive members of their school community, society, and the world. 

    Parent University will Provide:

    • Resources, training, and mentoring support to parents in their role as their child's first and most important teacher
    • A forum for parents to share their own experiences and locally available resources in support of literacy, along with a number of additional strength-based themes that are known to positively impact learning

  • Leadership institute

     

    A 10 week course which focuses on enhancing listening and communication skills, becoming a collaborative leader, negotiating and learning from conflict, design and ethical thinking and so much more.  Orientation will be held on Monday April 10, 2023 at STEM.  Classes meet Wednesday nights from 5:30 to 7:30 pm EST.  Email or call Dr. Nolan L.   • Financial Literacy

    CHESTER, PA- February 2023 - Parent University and PNC Bank recently hosted a free three-part financial literacy workshop series for Chester Upland School District families.

     

    Led by PNC Bank Representative Nelson Acevedo, #SecureTheBag workshops provided parents, caregivers, and families of CUSD students with essential financial tips and strategies to help them create a successful financial future.

    The series addressed many topics centered around finances, including budgeting, investing, and savings. Attendees also received take-home material and other practical tips to help them manage finances effectively in the future. Click here for the full article

  • Career ReadinessLanding your next job involves preparation.  Parent University in partnership with EDSI Delco, hosted a Career Readiness Day at STEM Academy for students, families and the community. Attendees were able to take part in workshops that focused on career preparation and included resume writing, mock interviews, and career exploration. Thanks to donations from members of the Parent University team and Tishiema Lacy, parent of a CUSD student, people who attended the workshops were also able to select and take home business attire that can be worn during any future interview.
